Therapeutic massage is the manual manipulation of the body’s soft tissue and it’s generally used for the reduction of pain. Therapeutic massage can help a person become healthier and more resistant to disease.
The goal is to relax,“reset” or lengthen tightened muscles and soft tissue, thereby improving lymphatic and blood circulation and so decreasing pain and increasing flexibility. Myofascial techniques use slow sustained pressure, allowing muscles to safely relax and lengthen.

Athletes have sworn by massage therapy for improved athletic performance. A circulatory system promotes efficient circulation through the body. This means in order for muscles to work and create movement, they need the oxygen carried through the circulatory system.
Manual lymphatic drainage is used to increased lymph flow thus reducing edema and inflammation. This technique is especially useful after surgeries where lymph nodes have been removed, as is the case with many breast cancer surgeries.
The massage therapist may integrate a range of techniques to treat these conditions, ideally adapting his or her style for each client, as every person’s body is slightly different.
