Review and discuss AMTA’s Code of Ethics. Discussion of power differentials between client and therapist. Appropriate behaviors and clothing in a professional environment. Presentation of case studies involving various ethical dilemmas encountered by other massage therapists and how they may have handled or resolved the issues. A forum will be presented to allow students to talk about ethical dilemmas they have personally encountered, whether they may have resolved them or possible resolutions offered by their fellow therapists.
Students will verbalize their understanding and continued adherence to the AMTAs Code of Ethics.
Students will be able to define and verbalize the power differential in the massage therapeutic relationships.
Students will be able to identify behaviors and dress codes that could lead to misunderstandings and ethical dilemmas.
Students will explore how to resolve ethical dilemmas from the review of real case studies.
